    On April 10, 1912, right at the beginning of the fateful voyage, Titanic nearly collided with another White Star vessel, the SS New York
    as Titanic was departing Southampton. No joke!
    This view of Titanic is from the deck of the SS Oceanic which was moored alongside the SS New York.
    Some quick action by Captain Smith of Titanic and a tug boat captain helped to avert a disaster in Southampton.
