A gloriously crooked diamond willow walking stick with over 17 natural wooden diamonds of deep brown and maroon red hues over a light tan background wood.
As you can see, the stick doesn't arc or bow, but rather it comes back to center, so the kinks don't hinder but just add character.

Stick Features
COOL CURVES: Has exaggerated crooks and kinks, giving this trekking stave great character and making it extra intriguing, but the stick stands straight for the most part (ie, comes back to center) and works great! Please see ALL pics.
COMFY HAND GRIP: Nice and round for the most part; very smooth and comfortable. If there is a diamond on the side where you want to grip, I assure you it helps and doesn't impede, as the indents make great finger grips and hand guides. On this stick, the opposite side of the diamonds is smooth and feels nice in the palm.
GIRTH: thin enough for smaller hands YET wide enough for large hands, this is basically one size fits all. Also great for either left- or right-handed folks.
CUSTOM ENGRAVING: Wood burned engraving of your choice makes this journey stick extra personal;

COMFY GRIP:
Nice and round for the most part; very smooth and comfortable.
There is a diamond on the side that doesn't impede, but rather indents, and makes a great finger grip and hand guide. The opposite side of the diamonds is flat and slightly curved and fits nicely in the palm.
MANY DIAMONDS: has an abundance of more than 17 plus wooden diamonds of various hues of tan, luscious caramel, reddish brown and deep brown with gorgeous lines. ALSO, has a few particularly deep diamonds (although it's difficult to capture the many curves and forms in the photos). They're beautiful alone, and also perfect for embedding stones or charms into them, if you'd wish.

ALL NATURAL: Some people 'create' diamonds in their sticks, but not me. No stains or paints added....just clear poly.
SUSTAINABLE: Not clear cut, but each is selectively hand picked by me as I harvest this diamond willow in northern Minnesota, USA. I take one or two out of a clump of trees, leaving the rest of the clump intact, with more nutrients and sunlight and room to grow.
METICULOUSLY SANDED: Stripped of bark and lovingly sanded, often for several hours to help bring out nature's beautiful colors and designs
THOROUGHLY DRIED: Wood is dried for several months, often with a fan blowing on them in the summer, ensuring they're fully cured
FINISHED: then given 5 coats of clear poly to help bring out the colors and help protect your hiking staff
BOOT: Comes with a brand new rubber cane protector

This can probably hold more weight, but I wouldn't want to guarantee that. Most of my walking stick can hold more weight, but this is just a tad thinner than usual and the curves make it less sturdy than a straight stick. I'm 200 lbs. and test each stick to make sure it's sturdy and doesn't bend, but I can't test for much more weight than I am myself.

Please message us and let us know the weight limit you need. I'd be happy to guide you toward sticks in our shop that are thicker, or we most likely have one such stick in stock but just haven't listed it yet. Or I could cut a few inches off a walking stick you like, as that always makes it more stronger.
CAN BE SHORTENED
We'll happily cut it down for you, FREE of charge. Just let us know the length you want and we'll cut it after you pay. We'll then saw, sand and coat with a few extra layers of polyurethane on the end.
Remember: Measure twice, cut once. ;)

Preferences vary and it depends on the terrain, but generally a hiking staff should be about shoulder height, or 6-8 in. above the elbow. Measure while wearing regular walking shoes.

HOW CORD HAND GRIP ADDED:
cord is simply wrapped without knots, tightened on top of initial and ending strands
might have a small nail holding the top and bottom ends onto the stick, just for extra assurance, though you can easily pop the stud nail out if you need to use the cord, or change your hand grip rope color
wrapped grip is then given several coats of wood hardener on top of the cord until it's soaked and coated good
yes, you can untie the cord and use it--it will just be a little stiff at first

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
SUSTAINABLE: Not clear cut, but each is selectively hand picked by me as I harvest this diamond willow in northern Minnesota, USA.
I say "sustainably harvested" because the diamonds are created by a fungus, so the trees I harvest are either dead or dying when I cut them. They grow in clumps, so when I selectively harvest and take 1-2 out of a clump, that leaves room for the others to get more sunlight and nutrients to enhance their short lives, as well.

THE WOOD
Each of our wooden hiking sticks is handmade from the diamond willow tree of Northern Minnesota, USA.  The hiking pole is actually an upside down tree, so it tapers toward the bottom a bit. The diamond willow I harvest from northern Minnesota is a solid, strong semi-hard wood which makes a sturdy, safe walking stick or trekking cane.
NATURAL MARKINGS
DIAMONDS:
The trees usually grown in clumps, and diamonds are better when they're located in shaded places near water (often swamps). The diamonds are created by a fungus, which eventually kills these short-lived trees.
Finding trees with good diamonds entails climbing over fallen trees, through thick underbrush and often near or through mosquito-infested swamp. Some people don't want to go through that trouble, so
some folks will stain or paint their sticks to enhance or even "make" diamonds (because finding a stick growing in the woods that has GOOD diamonds, height, girth and structure is work)...yet I find there's no need to make diamonds when nature already makes the MOST BEAUTIFUL wooden diamond designs. I never stain or make diamonds.
I've only meticulously sanded and added clear coat poly.
The natural colors of each hiking stick are spectacular, with a variety of tan, brown and reddish brown colors.
OTHER MARKINGS:
MAY have insect marking or other designs in the wood and discolorations of color created by nature. ALL sticks are cured (dried) for several months, and all insects have long disappeared before I meticulously sand (often several hours of work go into each stick) and add 5 coats of clear poly.

I use either one of my handmade walking canes or a taller walking staff DAILY, and I've had both for several years. I take pride in making sure you get a beautiful, strong and sturdy hiking staff just as good or better than the one I use.

I inspect each stick at EACH step of the crafting process, throwing out questionable pieces, and only keeping the strongest ones to finish and sell for your use.
No stains or coloring have been added. Unlike some people who "create" diamonds in their sticks by carving and adding color to try to make them look natural, I've only tried to enhance nature's beauty with an obsessively respectful sanding and 5-7 layers of clear polyurethane coating for extra protection and to highlight nature's beauty.

HANDLING TIME: We'll bring it to the post office within 2-3 BUSINESS days (this requires work and I need to recoat over the engraving and let it to dry thoroughly before packing it).

PACKAGING: packed well to prevent dents during shipping. Most packing materials are reused already, but please find a way to recycle that cardboard and reuse the foam or bubble wrap when you get it. ;)
